I was able to go to Washington D.C. with my mom and my cousin Cindy. We were able to stay with a good friend of Cindy's, Rhonda who lives in Leesburg, VA which is just outside of the city. She is house sitting for her friends who have been called as Missionaries/Mission President in Europe. The home is on 85 acres and it was beautiful there. While we were there we were able to visit the Museum of American History, go to the top of the Washington Monument (thanks to Rhonda asking people if they had extra tickets!), see the Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, International Spy Museum and a National's Baseball game. I enjoyed nearly every minute of it. It is such an amazing city, rich with our nations history. I would have liked to have seen more but with such a short time frame we weren't able to. I'm already planning to go back to see more. Many thanks to Rhonda for being such a wonderful hostess to us!
Here are a few pictures from my trip. I will post some of where we stayed when I get them from my mom. Enjoy!
I took the kids to see Night at the Museum 2 a couple of weeks back. When I showed this picture of the Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pool to Halle and Jayce, Halle said "that's where the Octopus is." Jayce reminded her it was just a movie and pretend.
Statue of George Washington from inside the monument.
The White House from atop the Washington Monument. Halle also told me to say hello to President Obama while I was there. Luckily he was in Germany at the time so I didn't have to explain to her why I wasn't able to.
The WW2 Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial
The Vietnam Memorial with Cindy and Rhonda walking in the rain
The Lincoln Memorial. When Halle saw this picture she asked me if I saw him move, even just a little. Again from the movie!
