On Mike's return trip home from New Orleans he was flying on my Jetblue Benefits, so he was Standby. I told him to show up at the Airport on Saturday morning for the 10:00 am New Orleans to JFK New York flight(for those not familiar with Jetblue, SLC has very few flights. To go to New Orleans you have to fly through New York then connect to SLC. That is the best case scenario.) knowing that he wasn't going to make that 10 am flight he'd then roll onto the next flight and become one of the first Standby's for the next flight. You see flying Standby is tricky. Mike called my Mom's house and said he made the flight and to let me know. When asked how he got on that flight he said some guy wearing Utah gear got him on, the "guy" told the gate agent that he would even take the jump seat if he could get two more guys on (Mike and Eric). We were baffled since that flight was sold out, however we couldn't ask him about it for a few hours until he got into New York.
Mike called me from New York when he got there. I asked how the heck he made that flight. Well, it turns out "some guy" turned out to be David Neeleman the founder/creator of Jetblue. They announced on the plane that David was on board. David went to the game too. He was at the airport with a whole bunch of people but chatted with Mike and Eric since they were in their Utah gear too. Mike said, "I thought he looked familiar." Duh! David didn't have to jumpseat luckily. I asked Mike if he thanked him, "Of course I did. I even thanked him before I knew who he was."
Then I had to figure out which flight they should try to fly next. I told him he can't fly over holiday's or dates that I think are a bad idea anymore.

David Neeleman
