Millie - 11/28/09

We had an unexpected event in our home Saturday. We had to say goodbye to Millie. Millie was our family dog. We adopted her 6 years ago from a family in Springville who couldn't take care of her. She was born July of 2000. Her previous owners named her Millie short for Millennium. I sometimes called her Maleficent, because she would run away so often. She was a stubborn, independent, sweet, and an adorable little Beagle. I always wanted to dress her up for Halloween as "Under Dog," in fact I started a costume for her but never finished it.

On Saturday morning she couldn't stand up. We brought her inside and she was only able to use her front legs. I took her to the Vet and the Doctor there was incredibly kind and understanding. After examining her he explained that she had probably slipped a disc in her spine causing a spinal cord injury paralyzing her. There wasn't much that could be done with out more misery to her so we decided it would be kinder to let her go.

Since the kids were very aware of the situation we had to explain it to them the best we could. I told them that Millie was hurt very badly and we couldn't help her get better so we would let Heavenly Father take care of her now. Many tears were shed, I cried my fair share and so did tough old Mike. We are going to make a stepping stone for our garden to remember her by and place it in our back flower bed. We will miss her. Love you Millie! You were a good girl!
