Today was Mike's second appointment with Dr. Holmstrom after his surgery. He was pretty excited for this one because he was going to get a new brace. The Doc says the incision looks good, and showed him how to massage it a little to loosen up some of the scar tissue. He explained to us that the pattelar rupture is a lot worse than a ACL surgery because the pattelar tendon is stitched back together and has a longer recovery since it takes a long time for that to heal you have to restrict the movement of the knee until it takes. Mike got a new brace that allowed him to start bending his knee, he can start with up to 30-40 degrees for two weeks and move up to 70 degrees. He has to start physical therapy and the Dr. told him to start working on it at home too. Mike was very happy after this appointment because he feels like he is finally able to start recovery instead of laying around waiting.
Mike went back to work last week part time and has only been taking tylenol or ibprofren. He is doing really well all things considering.
He didn't know I was taking his picture for the blog or he would have smiled.
I wanted to take a picture of him with his new brace.
Much Love! - Suzie and Family
