Afternoon at the Zoo - 4/2/2010

The kids were on Spring Break from school for a few days and we wanted to do some fun activities while they were out.  We planned an afternoon at the zoo and hoped the weather held out for us.  Friday was the only day wer really could go because of the rainy/snowy weather we've been having lately.

We had to pick Mike up at work around one in the afternoon (since Mike won't be able to drive for a couple of months still we are shuttleing him around) and then we headed up to Hogle Zoo.

It was pretty chilly but the sun peeked out every now and then.  It actually was kind of nice, it wasn't blazin' hot, not crowded and we saw the same animals we would have in the summer.  We bought the season pass since it was going to cost us just about as much for individual tickets.  The kids, particularly Anna, are excited they can go back.  Anna keeps talking about the "aMiNals" she saw and that she wants to go see the "aMiNals" again.  She was so cute, it was here first time to the zoo and she was a little nervous about some of the bigger animals like the rhino's and elephants because the fence didn't look too strong to her I guess.  When the Rhino started walking toward us she hid behind me.  Also I wanted to take their photo by the big elephant but it started making weird noises and Anna freaked out so I had to get in the picture with them.  The whole time Anna asked to see the Bats, and Halle the Peacocks??? You'd think they would want to see something bigger like a lion.  Funny!

We didn't stay too long.  Mike was really uncomfortable in the electric wheelchair we rented.  We were going to rent a regular wheelchair but the foot rest wouldn't extend out so the employee was nice and gave us the electric one for the price of the regular one, $9.  Sweet!  The electric one was $25.  I'm glad we got the electric one, I'd forgotten how many hills there were.  I would have died pushing that around.

The wind picked up at the end of the afternoon and we decided to call it quits and head home with the promise we'd come back soon.  We ended up having a very nice "family outing". I asked everyone what was their favorite part, here's the answers....

Halle: The rhinos, the elephants, everything! And being there with her family.
Jayce: Watching the monkeys and the snakes.
Anna: All the aMiNals!
Mike: Spending time with his family
Suzie: The carousel, the kids had big grins riding on it and the animals on it were really cute.

P.S. The reptile building still stinks!

Much Love! - Suzie and Family
