Not much going on - 2/6/08

There hasn't been much going on lately to blog about. We are pretty much in our daily routines and haven't had anything too fun going on. I thought I would at least acknowledge that we were all fine, no one's dead.

The kids are doing well. Anna has decided that her name is Annie. We have been prompting her to say words, "Say Dog, say cat, say Anna," but she won't say Anna she says Annie. It cracks us up. Jayce is enjoying Cub Scouts. He is looking forward to Feb. 19th when they are having the marshmellow gun activity. Boys! Halle is growing like crazy. Her clothes are all getting too small too fast.

Mike was offered a job at Mountain America managing a new department, Work Out Loans. He went back and forth with them for awhile. He thought it sounded like a good opportunity and thought he would enjoy helping people who were in trouble with their payments. In the end they couldn't get anywhere near his salary now, he would be taking around a $9,000 pay cut if he took the position, so he had to tell them no. He was pretty stressed out about the whole thing. Hopefully his work at Utah First will get less stressful and he begin to enjoy his job there.

I just finished reading "Beauty" by Robin McKinley for our wards book club. I never get to go the meetings since I am working, but I try to read the books each month. I have read a few books that I never would have if they hadn't showed up on our book club list. I really enjoyed "Beauty" it was right up my alley. It's the fairytale Beauty and the Beast, a bit different from the Disney version but it seems that Disney got many ideas from this story. The roses, the magical servants, the horse. This book was written in 1978 so it's as old as I am. I guess it's one of her first books. I am looking forward to reading a couple of her other books, she mainly writes fantasy, romance type stories. I have looked her up on Amazon.com and she has a version of the frog prince/twelve dancing princesses and a sleeping beauty that look interesting.
I have also been sewing a lot lately. Ashley Curfew, Mike's niece, asked me if I would fix her Prom Dress. She is such a sweet girl and has been babysitting for us for years and won't let us pay her, of course I wanted to help her with the dress. I was a bit frightened at first when I saw the 7 layers of skirts, but I was mostly all cutting since 5 of the layers are tulle fabric. I had to cut 5 inches off the bottom. It was really long. Hopefully she will give me a photo of her in it so I can post it here.
I made some new throw pillows for my living room. It was my first attempt at making a pillow that I could take off the cover and wash separately. The pillows at my house get so filthy and they don't go through the washer very well. I decided to give it a try. Here are the results. I think I did pretty well for making it up by myself. I don't know why I was so drawn to the 60's flower fabric.

Hopefully the next week or so will bring something more exciting.

I'm sorry you couldn't find the kit at Joann's!! I think I found it on one of the aisle ends...maybe they were out. Bummer!!

See you soon!
